The Zimbabwe Red Cross family learnt with great shock of the death of the organisation's National President Mr Lemon Sigauke Shumba. The Late Mr Shumba was a true visionary, an uncommon leader, orator par excellence, true volunteer, father of all and indeed the leading light of the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society.

The Late National President passed away on the morning of Friday the 29th of September 2011 and was buried on Monday the 2nd of October 2011 in Gweru. Flocks of people from the Red Cross family, the education sector and family and friends attended his funeral wake to give him a befitting send off.

When news of his death filtered in, many were taken aback but like they say when the lamp is broken, the light lies dead in the ground and when the flute is broken, sweet sounds are remembered no more. Such a leader was the late National President that his death especially coming after the 10 September 2011 World First Aid Day celebrations where he gave a rousing speech shocked many.

Of his death, the ZRCS Secretary General Mrs Emma Kundishora said this is a great loss to the Zimbabwe Red Cross family. "We have lost a cog in the organisation. The late National President was a great leader and his untimely departure leaves a big void in the organisation. We will continue to be inspired by his quest for a better Zimbabwe for all through effective steering of the organisation's humanitarian work".

Mrs Kundishora said it is indeed a great loss to Mr Shumba's immediate family, the local humanitarian sector and the entire nation at large. As the late Mrs Shumba lies in his final resting place, fact is he has fought a good fight and his works will forever be cherished by all and sundry. Go thee well great humanitarian worker. Rest in eternal peace.
